Knives are one of the oldest tools known to mankind. They were first invented 2.5 million years ago and were used by early humans as weapons for hunting, cutting, and scathing. Early knives were made from wood, rock, and bones.Today, they are more sophisticated and are used for multiple purposes according to their size, design, and build.
Types of Knives
Knives are of different types and they vary according to the purpose that they serve. Hunting knives are used by Hunters, Soldiers use Combat knives, Hikers, Campers, and Scouts carry pocket knives for making camping arrangements, and Artists use throwing knives for performing tricks.
Folding knives are great everyday carry tools. As the name says, they are knives that fold into the handle and can fit inside the pocket. They have a locking mechanism that prevents the user from getting injured from accidently closing the blade. There are different kinds of locking mechanisms:
- liner lock
- back lock
- axis lock
- compression lock
Folding knives are designed with hard-core tactical folders to be well suited for tough tasks while displaying a stylish appearance. They have wide range of options that varies with different types of steel, handle materials, and blade shapes.

Training knives are made of plastic, rubber, and other materials that are not sharp and can be used for training and learning combat arts. There are butterfly trainers, and plastic karambit knives and many more.
